Sylvia Mae Michaelson, 102, passed away peaceably on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at her home in Aberdeen, Wash.

Sylvia was born on May 7, 1915, in Portsmouth, Va., to Samuel Alexander and Hannah Rachel (Salzberg) Feinson. When she was nine, they moved to Seattle, then to Seldovia, Alaska and settling in Hoquiam, Wash., where she graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1933. She worked for her father at Hannah’s Dress shop in Hoquiam and later in Aberdeen at Feinson’s Women’s Apparel. Eventually the family moved to Aberdeen. Following graduation she went to Grays Harbor Business College, and soon after college she returned to the east coast living with family in Florida and New York.

In 1943, in Lubbock, Texas, she married Emanuel “Manny” Michaelson, whom she knew from New York. She returned to Aberdeen while Manny was fighting in the European Theatre during WWII. He later joined her following the war. Together they owned and operated the family business of Star Furniture. He passed away in 1995.

Sylvia was a member of the PTA in Aberdeen in the 1950’s and worked with the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She especially loved home-making, being a wife and mother, baking, knitting and needlepoint.

She is survived by two daughters: Ann (Herb) Bergeron of Lakewood and Tammie (Alan) Jones of Montesano; a granddaughter, Kailey Jones of Montesano; a nephew, Peter (Genevieve) Freeman of Hawaii and numerous other nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, Tamara Jones, proceeded her in death.

There will be a private family graveside at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen. A reception will be held on Monday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at the family home, 1830 Sherwood Lane, Aberdeen, Wash.
