Sue E. Hatley(Dec. 5, 1929 – July 15, 2016)

Sue Ella Hatley, passed away July 15, 2016

Sue Ella Hatley mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and especially our friend, passed away July 15, 2016, at Pacific Care in Hoquiam, Wash. where she spent her last few years with dementia, but still knowing her family and having a great sense of humor at times. She passed unexpectedly in her sleep with her son Michael and her loving dog Beau (her #1 son) of 15 years and still going strong, at her side.

She was born in Thompson, Tenn., of the Great Smokey Mountains within short distance of Dolly Parton. She lost her parents Nancy and Joseph McGill at a very young age. Our uncle Joy Meyers brought her out to west Aberdeen at an early age of 14 where she later met and married Sherman R. Hatley (they later divorced).

She worked as a bartender and mixologist until her retirement. She was able to travel with her friends and family. She loved going on cruise ships with her daughter Jo Ann and her husband, Richard, she also went back to Tennessee with her daughters Nancy, Jo Ann and step-daughter Claudette to visit what family she still had.

Prior to mom’s dementia she enjoyed attending Emmanuel Baptist and Senior Center of Hoquiam.

Her hobbies were traveling, gardening, cribbage, going to the Driftwood Plays (especially when the great Eddie the Logue, was acting), her grandchildren, crocheting (she made the dress for the Senior dance), quilting and sewing were amazing! She especially loved her special family in Montesano.

She had five children: Michael (Shari) his biological daughter, Kelly Anderson (Phil) her parents Arlene and Mike Hume of Montesano, her children Max and Emma their father Brett Anderson; son Sherman D. Hatley, his daughter Shannon Monroe, her mother Brenda and her husband David Friberg, Shannon’s children Sadie Bennett and her daughter Kora and Shannon’s other two daughters Mandee and Erica, their father David, Sherm’s other daughter Paula Reed and her husband Keith, their three children J.T. and Jordan Skipper, father Andy Skipper, Keith’s daughter Maranda, son Sherman D. Hatley Jr (D.J.)., wife Amber, daughters Skylar (mother) Schellie Schlesser, Morgan, father Tyson Reeves and Danika, son Jason Hatley, his sons Zander, Gavin, Austin and daughter Shelby (mother Stephanie Michaelis), both boys mother Sharon (Jerry Krauth), daughter Nancy Whitehead, husband Jim, Nancy’s children, daughter Madison (Matti) and son Brandon and his daughter Imani – Jim’s two children Mathew and wife Stephanie children Julia and Caitlin, daughter Beckie, husband Aaron Zisser, son Calev, daughter Jo Ann (Richard Huntoon), step-daughter Claudette (Gordon Scure) and mother Georgia Hatley.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents Nancy and Joseph McGill, uncle Joe Meyers, whom was never married and treated our family like his own, her loving son Sherman D. Hatley (the worm), former husband Sherman R. Hatley and most of her family in Tennessee.

Our mom may have had dementia, but still had a sense of humor — wheeled her wheel chair 8-10 hours a day with a balloon attached so the staff would know where she was wheeling off to. At 86, she was asked if she might make it to ninety — her reply “When the good Lord says it’s time to go, I’ll go!”

A special thanks to Pacific Care, Harrison Family Mortuary and Pastor Brad Gill. Pacific care your staff was wonderful to our mom. Thank you for the condolences and cards.

Come by for cake and ice cream at Pacific Care on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 2-4 p.m.
