Sterling Earl Cherry Jr. passed away at Grays Harbor Community Hospital on Jan. 3, 2018.

Sterling Earl Cherry Jr. passed away at Grays Harbor Community Hospital on Jan. 3, 2018. He was 83. Sterling was born in Montesano on Sept. 20, 1934, to Sterling Earl Cherry Sr. and Dorothy (Beaver) Cherry. The family eventually moved to Cosmopolis, Wash. near the golf course. He liked to search for golf balls and eventually learned how to play. He attended Weatherwax High School and was a member of the golf team and also enjoyed being part of the high school newspaper. He graduated in 1952.

On July 23, 1955, Sterling married the love of his life, Myrna Joy Madison in Montesano, Wash. Together they enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Sterling worked as an oiler and eventually became a painter for ITT Rainier located in Hoquiam, Wash. He was employed for 38 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, country music, gardening with his wife, camping with his family, and (his favorite) playing golf. Sterling and his wife became Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1963 and have been faithful ever since. They enjoyed serving Jehovah and telling others about God.

Sterling is survived by children Robert E. Cherry of Wyoming, Kenneth L. Cherry of Aberdeen, Dennis W. Cherry of Pacific Beach, and Angela J. Cherry of Westport; grandchildren Chrystal, Jesse, Darrien, Joshua, Benjamin, Darrin, Kallegh, Chloe, and Timothy; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrna; his parents Sterling Sr. and Dorothy; his brother Roger; and his infant son, Allen E.

Sterling will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at the Wynoochee Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at the Olympic View Grange #744, 466 Old Montesano-Brady Road, Brady, Wash.
