Robert J. Babineau Jr. passed away in Aberdeen on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2016, after a short, and very aggressive battle with cancer, at the age of 64. He was born in Aberdeen, Nov. 13, 1951, to Robert J. Sr. and Mary (Barriault) Babineau.

Robert, or “Bobby”, was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1970, several months after marrying Barbara Karl on Nov. 15, 1969. A couple years later he enlisted in the army, serving from 1974 and was honorably discharged in 1977.

After returning to Aberdeen, he went to work for the City of Aberdeen, where he remained for the last 38 years of his life. Robert later married Anne Marie Fitzpatrick on August 16, 1980. Together they opened Anne Marie’s Café in 1998. He further added to the community as a member of the Aberdeen VFW and the 40 et 8 club.

His passion, and favorite pastime, was hunting with his family. It started at an early age with his Uncle Walt, and continued on with a family friend Bruce. Once they became of age he passed on his passion to his sons Nicholas and Peter, which completed their hunting circle. Running a very close second was fishing with his grandson Collin.

Robert also enjoyed his many years of shooting pool and the very many close friends, and nicknames he acquired along the way. “Bubba,” or “Bobaloo,” was very active over the years in all aspects of baseball, participating, coaching and as a spectator. Rounding out his “fun” time was bowling. Robert also took pride in the yardwork around the house that he shared with longtime companion Samantha Jones and their dogs, Cassie, Bandit, and Ricky

Robert is survived by five children: James Babineau, Port Angeles, Mari (Ken) Langley, Port Angeles, Cyndi Langley, Okla., Nicholas (Jessikah) Babineau, Bothell and Peter, Montesano; and also six grandchildren, Hilario, Erik, Cris, Kelsey, Jordyn and Collin; four siblings: Steven (Jolyn) Babineau Sr., Charles Babineau and Cheryl (Jon) Sidor, all of Aberdeen, and William (Kim) Strong, Reno, Nev. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Babineau Sr., mother Mary Strong, step-father William Strong, and a daughter Stacy.

A Funeral Service will take place noon, Friday, Dec. 2 at St. Mary Parish Center, 306 East 3rd St., Aberdeen. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1 p.m. at the same location.
