Richard (Dick) L. Hliboki

Richard (Dick) Leigh Hliboki passed away in Olympia, Wash. on Feb. 18, 2018, at the age of 82 from heart failure.

Richard (Dick) Leigh Hliboki passed away in Olympia, Wash. on Feb. 18, 2018, at the age of 82 from heart failure. He was born in Elma, Wash. on April 3, 1935, to Edna and Andy Hliboki. He had two younger brothers, Jim (JoAnn) and Jerry Hliboki.

Dick graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1954. Following graduation he joined the Army and was stationed in Alaska. In 1957 he married Darlene Cooper and they had four children: Rick, Darcy (John), Dennis (Robin) and Robin (Ken).

After getting out of the military, Dick moved his family to Ballard and became a salesman for JC Penny’s. In 1969 he returned to Grays Harbor and sold cars for Whitney’s in Montesano. In the mid 70s he changed careers and became a delivery driver for Gai’s Bakery.

In 1983 Dick married Pennie Sundberg who brought three children to their relationship Cheri (Jeff) Kennedy, Bill Rock and Bob (Dawn) Sundberg.

Shortly after getting married, Pennie’s job took them to Richland where Dick worked for Desert Buick. In 1992 they returned to Olympia where he joined the sales team at Rotters. He ended his long and successful career at Mullinax Ford.

Dick was active in his community where he served on the Montesano School Board and coached various baseball teams.

In his spare time he enjoyed family gatherings, camping, playing cribbage, gardening, road trips and watching the Mariners.

Dick is survived by his wife Pennie, brother Jim, seven children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Andy, his brother Jerry and his grandson Christopher.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Montesano Moose on March 2, at 11 a.m. The family is asking that donations be made to the Montesano Little League in lieu of flowers.
