Olivia ‘Ollie’ Kauno, 97, Central Park resident, passed away Friday morning, July 13, 2018, at her home in Central Park, Wash.

Olivia ‘Ollie’ Kauno, 97, Central Park resident, passed away Friday morning, July 13, 2018, at her home in Central Park, Wash.

Olivia was born on July 2, 1921, in Roslyn, Wash., to Joseph and Krystna (Starcevich) Petrovich. Her family moved to Ocosta when she was a child and she later graduated from Ocosta High School. She moved to Seattle for a year before returning to the harbor and Hoquiam.

Ollie married Leo Kauno on Aug. 30, 1940, in Aberdeen. They later divorced.

She worked as a clerk for Kress’ Department store, Safeway and Nuways Grocery stores. She then went to work at the Pacific Beach Naval Station in 1977 as the Secretary to the Commander (SeaBees). She then transferred to Lake Quinault where she worked for the U.S. Forest Service as an Office Manager. In 1987 she returned to Pacific Beach Naval station, when the base closed she transferred to Whidbey Island and worked there until her retirement in 1992. She returned to Aberdeen for a short time before moving to Olympia then Montesano and to live with her daughter Joyce in Central Park.

Ollie was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles. She loved to sew, dance, go shopping, reading and traveling. She always made time for family.

She is survived by her daughter Joyce (Richard) Poukkula of Central Park, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Kauno of Edmonds, Wash.; five grandchildren: Wendy (Alfred) Michelbrink, Kenny (Kris) Kauno, Grant (Shannon) Kauno, Michael Poukkula and Laurie (Darrel) Harless; great-grandchildren: Merritt and Shelby Michelbrink, Nathan, Nicholas and Danielle Kauno, Olivia Harless and Riley Bailey-Kauno; and one great-great-granddaughter, McKenna Kauno. Ollie was preceded in death by a son, Michael Kauno; five siblings; Joe, John, George and Charles Petrovich and a sister, Annie May.

There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 9 to 11 a.m. in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel. A Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel followed by a short committal service at the graveside in Fern Hill Cemetery.
