Born Merita Marcella Allmaras on Aug. 8, 1924, in New Rockford, N.D., her thirst for learning and adventure led her to accept a teaching assignment in Pe Ell, Wash., where she met and later married Richard Trohimovich on Aug. 6, 1955.

Settling in Aberdeen, Merita and Richard raised seven children.

Husband Richard passed in 1980 after which Merita focused on her family and her community work. She worked for the Aberdeen School District in the Special Education Department. She also volunteered both at St. Mary’s Church and the Grays Harbor Community Clothing bank.

Merita relocated to Kent in 2015 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Merita was preceded in death by her daughter Jill Trohimovich Gordon (Bellevue). She is remembered by her sons Tim (Seattle) and Jon, his wife Pam (Bellevue) and daughters Ann Paustian, husband Jim (Kent); Susan Bronk, husband Ken (Auburn); Patty Isogai, husband Yuichi (Seattle); and Merita Trohimovich, husband Bruce (Gig Harbor).

Merita also provided knowledge and love to grandchildren Stephanie (Paustian) Villegas, husband Cesar, and Rebecca Paustian, Sally Gordon, Timothy and Zoe Pollard, Gus Bronk, Anna and Joe Trohimovich and Justin Wulkan.

A celebration of Merita’s life will be held on Oct. 4, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary services at 9:30 a.m. with a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass. Reception to follow.
