Melodie Jean (Booth) Murray of Westport, Washington, died of sudden cardiac arrest on Jan. 17, 2019, at Prestige Care & Rehab in Camas, Washington, while recovering from a broken femur.

Melodie was born April 25, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Hallie and Dana Booth. She was the third of five children and the only girl.

She married Gordon Murray in 1974 and they made their way to Westport via Fields Landing, California, and Forks, Washington. She was a Westport resident for 43 years. Prior to a debilitating auto accident in 1982, Melodie had been a waitress at Fenton’s Creamery in Oakland and Freddie Steele’s in Westport. She was elated to welcome her daughter, Carina, to the world in 1978.

Melodie loved to cook and bake for friends and many were familiar with her delightful dishes, including her scalloped potatoes, German chocolate cake and apple bread pudding. Melodie was known by countless people for her warmth, friendliness and kindness. She made friends and a lasting impact everywhere she went. She was continually grateful to her circle of friends and community that helped her with transportation, appointments and errands over the last few decades.

Melodie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carina Murray and Brian Brainerd of Portland, Oregon, her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Gordon Murray of Issaquah, Washington, and two brothers, Larry and Phil Booth.

There will be no service or memorial held at this time. In lieu of flowers, a small donation may be made to the OHSU teaching hospital, which saved her life at the age of 32.
