Linda Carrie Newman passed away on Oct. 31, 2017, in her son’s home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Aberdeen, Wash., on Feb. 13, 1945, to Uneta Rose Hughes Newman and William Monroe Newman. Linda graduated from Aberdeen Weatherwax High School and went on to get her cosmetology license at DeWitt’s Beauty College. Linda lived in Hoquiam, Wash., with her daughter Carmen Cross and her fiancé Michael Sinclair and their two children.

Linda’s family was the most meaningful part of her life. Her love was unconditionally for her children and grandchildren. Linda took pride in gathering her whole family together for every holiday and having family dinners every Sunday. Her grandchildren brought immense joy and more purpose to her life. Throughout her life she took many people under her wing – family, friends, her children’s friends, as well as people she knew who were homeless on the streets. She always took on the motherly role to many. Her compassion, generosity, and selflessness shined bright to all who knew her. At the end of her 72-year journey, she proudly exclaimed that she would not have changed a thing about her life and she lived her life the way she wanted, with no regrets.

Linda was a lifelong resident of Grays Harbor. She spent a few years in Seattle and California. She spent her early years working in beauty salons, as well as, multiple caregiving facilities, owning her own beautician salon. In later years, she became a caregiver for many families. Linda had many hobbies she enjoyed. She would help cook for VASSA, coin club, ran concession stands for little league, cub scouts leader, and co-organizer of the youth Diabetes Association. She loved to bake, cook, clam dig, crabbing, garage sales, going to the casino and playing slot machines and camping at her beach cabin in Tokeland with family and friends. But by far her favorite was the family trips she would take to Hawaii and Vegas.

Linda was married three times, first to Bill Tetzlaff, Charles “Tinker” Ashlock, and then to Mike Cross. She never had a bad word to say about any of them and even stated she would be excited to see Bill and Tinker on the other side.

Survivors include her three brothers Mike and Linda Newman of Montesano, Wash., Rob and Karen Newman of Belfair, Wash., and Steve Newman of Central Park, Wash.; her four children Tim Tetzlaff of Aberdeen, Toby and Lisa Tetzlaff of Aberdeen, Carmen Cross and Michael Sinclair of Hoquiam, Wash. and Ryan Cross. Linda has six grandchildren, whom were her life; Taunel, Tyler and Micah Tetzlaff, Michael and Morgan Sinclair, and Sean Cross Welch. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gene “Sonny” Newman, a sister Fay Christopher and the true love of her life, her son Billy Tetzlaff.

A celebration of life will be held this Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Cosmopolis Lions Club from 2-6 p.m. It will be a potluck so please come join the family in remembering Linda Carrie Newman.
