John M. Iskra, 94, a resident of Hoquiam (Humptulips), passed away on Sept. 22, 2018.

John M. Iskra, 94, a resident of Hoquiam (Humptulips), passed away on Sept. 22, 2018. John was born on Sept. 8, 1924, to Mike and Stefania Iskra on the Humptulips property that his father and mother owned.

John drove truck (Green Hornet) for his brothers Max and Slauko (Iskra Bros. Logging Company) in the 1950s. He retired as a diesel mechanic after 28 years working for Weyerhaeuser Company.

The place he always loved to be at was the Humptulips property where he was born. While working tirelessly on the section of the property that was adjacent to the Humptulips River over 58 years, he was able to prevent the river from taking a good piece of the property and at the same time creating an excellent fishing hole. He was the happiest working the property be it cutting wood, working on the buildings and equipment, putting in hay and at one point raising cattle.

He enjoyed country music and loved to listen to polka music, especially when the accordion could be heard.

John is survived by his sister Ann Gwin, his children Allen Barnett (Olga); John Iskra (Susan); Craig Iskra; Gary Iskra; Tamy Rissmann (Gary); and his step-children Clare and Betty Fogelsong. He is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren along with many nieces (great) and nephews (great).

He was preceded in death by his brothers Slauko and Max and his sister Donna.

He will be missed deeply.

A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2018, at the Humptulips Grange.

Cremation arrangements by the Coleman Mortuary of Hoquiam.
