Beloved husband, father and friend, John A. Graves of Aberdeen, Washington, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at the age of 93.

Born in Liberty, Missouri, on July 27, 1925, to Roy B. and Katherine Graves, he graduated from high school in 1943. Johnie followed his older brother, who had joined the Air Force, by enlisting in the Navy, where he became an aviation radioman and unfortunately incurred a lifelong hearing loss. Stationed in San Francisco on V-J Day and while on his way to serve in the Aleutian Islands, he ended up at Whidbey Island, where he met the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Greenstreet. They were married on June 9, 1945, and celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Johnie was a master plumber for 45 years working in Sarasota, Florida, plumbing various high-rise and commercial buildings during his career. He and Pat, a registered nurse and then real estate agent, raised their two sons, Lary and Gregory (deceased in 1996) in Sedro Woolley, Washington, and Sarasota, Florida.

Johnie was a scoutmaster of troop 50 for 45 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver and Order of the Arrow. A large part of Johnie’s life was devoted to the Boy Scouts of America and to his church. He was always generous with his time and energy helping at his church, with the neighbors and those in need.

Surviving relatives include his loving wife, Patricia; son and daughter-in-law, Lary and Dana of Portland, Oregon, and sister, Dixie (Ronnie) of Bradenton, Florida.

He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing and after his retirement, Johnie and Pat spent their time RV-ing across the country and were members of the “Sammamish Sams” Good Sam Club for 20 years. They loved traveling, having parties and playing cards with all their wonderful friends.
