Joanne Marie Olson, age 82, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died on Sept. 7, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Mrs. Olson was born in the Hoquiam General Hospital on March 2, 1934, to Nathan and Ruth (Craig) Daniels.

Joanne Marie Olson, age 82, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died on Sept. 7, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Mrs. Olson was born in the Hoquiam General Hospital on March 2, 1934, to Nathan and Ruth (Craig) Daniels.

She met the love of her life in 1948 and on June 27, 1950, she and Alvin Olson were married in Montesano, Wash. They moved to their home on 5th Street in 1954 and have remained there since.

Mrs. Olson was a kid at heart. She loved playing with the grandchildren, collecting pollywogs, coloring, camping, fishing and clam digging. In later years, she was an avid reader, gaming at the casinos and caring for her beloved dachshunds, Jocko and Darby.

She attended Grays Harbor College where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for Grays Harbor Community Hospital from 1969 to 1978, then for Dr. Peter Koeniger from 1978 until his retirement in 1985.

Surviving relatives include her husband of 66 years, Alvin Olson of Hoquiam; daughters and their spouses, Joy and Pete Elsos of Sammamish, Wash. and Penny and Nate Rodriguez of Hoquiam; a son and his wife, Dusty and Kathy Olson of Hoquiam; seven grandchildren, Heather Jimenez, Romer Olson, Crystal Arias, Ryan Elsos, Becky Moran, Kimberly Piñeda, and Kristen Brantner; 17 great-grandchildren, Sivek, David, Mahteo, Yacci, Eleandra, Alicia, Clarissa, Hunter, Natalia, Siana, Dustin, Kylee, Jovani, Khloe, Savannah, Halle and Makinlee; two sisters, Betty Ruth Parker of Aberdeen and Dolores Wilken of Georgia and a brother, Nathan Daniels of Aberdeen.

A visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
