Harold Wesley Cummings, age 80, a resident of Hoquiam, died on Dec. 26, 2017, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

Harold Wesley Cummings, age 80, a resident of Hoquiam, died on Dec. 26, 2017, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Mr. Cummings was born on Sept. 19, 1937, in Aberdeen to Earl Francis and Mildred Eleanor (Bjorndahl) Cummings.

He was raised in Cosmopolis and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1956. He then served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 3, 1956, through Oct. 2, 1958.

On March 16, 1957, he and Carita Marie Sundell were married at the family home in Hoquiam.

Mr. Cummings had worked for ITT Rayonier for 20 years and owned and operated Hoh River Construction in Forks until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clam digging and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving family members include his wife Carita of Hoquiam; daughters, Carrie Cummings of Hoquiam and Cheryl Johnson of Cosmopolis; a son, Wes Cummings of Hoquiam; siblings, Betty Belles of Aberdeen, Phyllis Burke of Olympia, Gracie Jones of Pleasanton, Calif., Shirley Kernoski of West Virginia and Marilyn Gerchak of Montesano and grandchildren Christopher Cummings, Jai Moore, Amber Cummings-Wetzel, Valerie Dunlap, Autumn Cummings, Rebekah Peace, Aaron Gregg, William Cummings Jr., Laura Rhodes, Kelly Bonnelle, and M’Liss DeWald.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Harold Cummings; a daughter, Carla Erickson; sister, Frances Gustafson; brothers, Jack Cummings and Earl Cummings Jr., and two grandchildren, Cori Erickson and Andrew Gregg. Also survived by great-grandchildren Christen Cummings, Eric Murray, Mason Moore, Jack Wetzel, Owen Wetzel, Anthony Elliot, Thomas Dunlap III, Addylyn Dunlap, Lucas Bates, Taylor Brown, Lillian Gregg, Sadie Gregg, Calvin Cummings, Sophia Cummings, Annabelle Rhodes, Lillian Rhodes and two more due in 2018.

At his request, there will be no formal funeral services.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
