Evelyn Agnes (Voigt) Partridge March 25, 1920 - Nov. 24, 2018

Evelyn, 98, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2018 in Vancouver, Wash. She was born to Harry James Voigt and Rose Agnes Gauthier in Tacoma, Wash. on March 25, 1920. With two more children, the young family moved to Montesano, Wash. where Evelyn attended elementary and high school and graduated from Grays Harbor Community College. While at Grays Harbor she met Charles (Chuck) Partridge and they were married on Nov. 8, 1941. They made their first home in Tacoma, where Charles worked at the naval ship yard and Evelyn worked as a coder for Weyerhaeuser and later for a general building contractor.

After WWII their first son, Brian was born and they moved to Seattle, living in a houseboat on Portage Bay, while Chuck worked on his engineering degree at the University of Washington. Accepting a job in Pittsburgh, Chuck, Evelyn and Brian moved east, but after one year the family returned to Seattle’s University District, and Chuck began his 36-year career with the Crown Zellerbach Corp. Their second son, Craig, was born shortly thereafter. Throughout most of her life, Evelyn lived in the U District, and then the University House retirement community, finally moving to Vancouver, Wash. in August, 2018.

An innate artistic flair led Evelyn to her first job as a women’s clothing store display designer, to interior design classes at the U of W, and to a lifetime of crafting elegant decorations for her homes.

Evelyn has been a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 70 years. Combining service and leadership, Evelyn served as president of the Parents’ Club and joined many committees for the school and the church. In addition, she served on the boards of the University District Community Council and University Community Club. Evelyn was devoted to her family, and spent much time providing loving support and care for elder relatives.

Evelyn and Chuck traveled to many countries, including several European trips. At times they used these opportunities to pursue family genealogy, including Evelyn’s French Canadian roots. Evelyn and Chuck were members of the Town and Gown dance club for 18 years and Evelyn always enjoyed a good dance.

Evelyn was preceded in death by Chuck, her husband of 68 years in 2009; by her parents; and by her brother, Harry Voigt Jr. and sister, Julanne Larsen. She is survived by her two sons, Brian (Cheryl) of Vancouver, Wash. and Craig (LouAnn), of Tumwater, Wash.; five grandchildren: Daniel (Katie), Alan (Jenny), Gayle (Mark), Jesse, and Clea (Niles); three great-grandchildren: Evi, Emily, and Rowland; and a great-grandchild to be born in January.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 5050 8th Avenue NE, Seattle, 98105. Preceded by the Rosary at 10:30 a.m.

A reception will be held in the church hall following the Mass. A private family burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church Stained Glass Restoration Fund.
