Former Harborite, Dorothy Goheen LaVassar, 86, passed away Jan. 7, 2018, at her home in Des Moines, Wash., surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born May 30, 1931, in Cosmopolis, Wash. to David F. Goheen and Creta Mays Kosoff. She was raised on the East Hoquiam Road and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1949.

In 1950 she married Ronald Pickar, a childhood friend and classmate. They later divorced after Linda, Jackie and Dale were born. In 1967 she married Richard LaVassar and moved to Seattle. They had a son, Rick.

Dorothy’s working career after graduation began at the telephone company in Aberdeen. She then worked for Dr. Bryant and Dr. Pollock for many years. Her last job on the Harbor was at the P.U.D.

Her hobbies included dance lessons until she was 81 years old, gardening, knitting, volunteering at her grandchildren’s grade school, and especially attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting and dancing events. She was their biggest and proudest cheerleader. Her favorite weekends were getting together with the family at her cabin on Mason Lake. Good times were had by all and that will continue.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, a sister, Helen and a brother, Richard. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Foley, Jackie (Joe) Phillips, her sons, Dale (Kathy) LaVassar, Rick (Melisa) LaVassar, and her stepsons, Wayne (Karolyn) LaVassar and Bruce (Tina) LaVassar. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, her sister Dottie (Bruce) Wakefield and her brother Jim (Julie) Kosoff.

As per her wishes there will be no service. Her family will have a private memorial and celebration of her life.
