Donald Roy Koplitz, a longtime South Bend resident, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Wash.

Donald Roy Koplitz, a longtime South Bend resident, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Wash. He was 90. Don was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Everett, Wash. to Adolph and Marjorie (O’Neil) Koplitz.

Don was a graduate of Marysville High School where he participated in baseball, basketball and football. He went on to attend Everett Community College where he continued his love of baseball. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1951. He married Bertha Handeland June 12, 1954, and they moved to Willapa Harbor in 1962.

He held many titles with several different school districts that included educator, principal and coach for Elma Junior High, Skykomish High School, and South Bend High School.

Don was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, tending to his dahlia garden, and attending sporting events where he would volunteer at times.

The Koplitz family asks that donations be made to a school of your choice to enrich the activities and programs in Don’s memory.

Don is survived by his wife, Bertha, of South Bend; two sons, Steve Koplitz (Marla) of Enumclaw, Wash. and Brent Koplitz (Lynn) of New Orleans, La. and his daughter Monica Howard (Bo) of Tumwater, Wash. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Jack Koplitz, and his sister Marilyn Koplitz.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018, at the Koplitz Fieldhouse in South Bend, Wash. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond. You may visit www.StollersMortuary.com to leave condolences for the family.
