Byron Edward Hyde Sr. of Hoquiam passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Byron Edward Hyde Sr. of Hoquiam passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 87. Byron was born April 25, 1931, in Aberdeen, Wash., to William and Louise (Radam) Hyde. He was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School, class of 1950.

On Oct. 10, 1952, Byron married Edith Emerick in Aberdeen. Together they had three children, two sons, Robert (Suzanne) of Condon, Ore.; Eddie (Sandy) of Aberdeen, Wash., and a daughter, Sally Salinas of Forks, Wash. Edith passed away in 2001.

Byron had worked for Weyerhaeuser for 30 years as a chip tester and Harbor Plywood for eight years. Byron truly cared about his community and served on the Hoquiam City Council for 26 years, Hoquiam Loggers Playday Committee for 10 years and the Public Safety Committee for over 20 years. He served in the Washington National Guard and was a member of the Eagles.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clam digging, camping, gardening, canning, bowling, traveling and watching his grandkids’ activities.

Byron is survived by his loving and devoted partner of 16 years, Dawn Colleen Mize of Hoquiam; his brother Gordon Hyde and sister Audrey; nine grandchildren Jamey Totten, Chico Salinas, Jeff Hyde, Sarah Bell, Scott Hyde, Amy Hendricks, Erin Hyde and Amber Carlson; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Noble Hyde, sisters Helen Hancock-Erickson and Maxine Perkins and grandson Dan Totten.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Hoquiam Senior Center. Memorials in his name are suggested to the Grays Harbor Relay for Life or the Hoquiam Senior Center.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
