Betty Dobbin, 81, residing in Vancouver, Washington, for the past four-years, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. She was born in Co. Longford, Ireland, on March 6, 1937. At the age of 17, Betty immigrated to New York City (NYC) to join family, including her sister Anne. There she worked as a NYC telephone operator. While still in NYC, Betty met and married Donald Dobbin, after which they settled and started a family in Marsing, Idaho.

In the late-1960s Betty and her Family relocated to Aberdeen, Washington. There, she was able to raise her five children. Eventually, Betty worked for the Aberdeen School District, as Head Cook & this career led her into her retirement years. Later in life, Betty met and married Joe Ostrich in 2002. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, dancing and, dining until Joes’ passing in 2005. Betty was an active and long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School.

Betty was a proud United States citizen, but always retained the love of her Irish heritage, often sharing stories of her youth spent in Ireland and especially, the love for her mother, Katie. She enjoyed cooking, attending Irish festivals, listening to her favorite Irish tunes, and spending time with family, especially during the holidays. Over the years Betty had made several trips back to her Irish homeland visiting her siblings and cousins.

Betty had vast love for her community, but always had a special soft spot in her heart for her family—all of her children and her animals. Betty is survived by her five children: daughters Tammy Fahlstrom (Terry), Cathy Dobbin; sons Philip Dobbin (Vicki), grandchildren Molli and Emily, Sean Dobbin (Keri), grandchildren Conor and Kate; Steve Dobbin (Toni), and grandson Scott.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local animal shelter.
