Barbara Lee Grant-Oestreich, 75, passed away at her home on Saturday, April 28, 2018. She was born in San Jose, Calif. on March 9, 1943.

Barbara met and married Robert Grant in Westport in 1962. She married Kurt Oestreich in 1991. She was very active in the Westport community. She helped open the Co-Op Preschool at the Presbyterian Church. She worked for the Ocosta School District when her children were school aged. She also was part owner with Nancy Adskim of a preschool/daycare center. Her love for children was a perfect fit for helping parents and their children.

Some of Barbara’s favorite things included baking and cooking, sewing, gardening and her community and family. She enjoyed being part of the City of Westport and with the help of her family and local volunteers started Christmas By the Sea. A Christmas Celebration featuring beautiful holiday decorations and lights bringing beauty of the season to all who walked and worked at the Harbor.

Barbara and Kurt opened a restaurant, Barbara’s By The Sea, where they served many fisherman from early morning to late in the evening for over 20 years. She was known for the warm and friendly atmosphere at her restaurant, as well as the delicious food. In 2011 she was forced to retire due to illness. She spent her remaining years enjoying life with her husband, her children and grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Kurt; children Steve Grant, Rosie Grant-Litterer, Mike Grant, and Shane Grant; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two brothers Steven Downs and Bud Weaver, her sister Carol Beiger and an extended foster family in California.
