Barbara L. Givens MD, age 59, a longtime resident and Internal Medicine Physician in Grays Harbor, died on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, in her family home in Pacific Beach, Wash.

Barbara L. Givens MD, age 59, a longtime resident and Internal Medicine Physician in Grays Harbor, died on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, in her family home in Pacific Beach, Wash.

Barbara was born May 4, 1958, in Lewiston, Idaho to Larry E. Lefler Sr. and Ruby Sandahl. She is survived by her love and life partner, Joe Price, of the family home. Mother Ruby Sandahl of Lewiston, Idaho, deceased father Larry E. Lefler Sr. and brother Larry E Lefler Jr. (wife Tracy) of Kennewick, Wash. Also a special Aunty Joan Reed of Lewisten, Idaho.

Barbara obtained her medical degree from the University or Washington. Throughout her training, she was elected by her peers to be the leader, in each phase of her medical training. Barbara was loved by every patient she in encountered in her extensive medical profession.

Barbara came to Aberdeen in 1995, had a private practice and worked as a Hospitalist Physician at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Always working tireless hours to care for her beloved patients and always deeply admired by all her co-workers. Barbara served her last few years at Quinault Indian Nation as a provider and Medical Director, which she called “the best job ever!” Barbara passionately cared for all Tribal members and was immersed in Quinault culture. It was stated by a Quinault Elder, “she loved the beach, the people, and she had native blood.”

Barbara loved her life partner Joe, her family, dogs, and her gardening. Barbara always made an amazing difference for anyone she encountered in life and you always felt like you were the most important to her, as she cared for us all.

Honoring Barbara, a Celebration of Life, will be held at Shilo Inn in Ocean Shores, Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. Quinault Indian Nation drummers and dancer will preform. Thurman Santiago will officiate the Celebration.

At the request of Barbara’s mom, donations be made in her honor, to the Shriners Children Hospital of Spokane.
