WWE star and Aberdeen native Daniel Bryan cleared to return to wrestling

Two years ago, he stopped wrestling after sustaining concussions

WWE superstar and Aberdeen native Daniel Bryan has been medically cleared to return to professional wrestling, after two years of retirement. Bryan, whose real name is Bryan Danielson, left wrestling in February 2016 due to repeated concussions. Since then, he has been evaluated by multiple neurologists, who Bryan said were unanimous in telling him he was good to go.

At his return to SmackDown Live this week, Bryan was greeted with raucous chants of “Yes!” (which became his trademark chant). He explained his decision at the event, saying that although he was grateful for his friends outside of wrestling, he felt depressed about not being active in the ring. He added that his wife and fellow wrestler Brie Bella encouraged him to return.

“She came to me and said, ‘It’s wonderful that you’re grateful, but you need to fight, and you need to fight for your dreams,’” Bryan said to the crowd of SmackDown Live this week. “Over the last two months, I’ve asked WWE to relook at my case, and they sent me to the best neurologists all over the country. Every doctor I’ve seen has said the same thing, and it was this: ‘You are clear.’”

In his announcement, Bryan hinted that he will hopefully return in time to compete in Wrestlemania 34, a pay-per-view WWE event April 8 in New Orleans.
