Wild cheers for Hoquiam PD lip sync challenge video premier at 7th Street Theater Thursday

More that 100 people attended the premier of the Hoquiam Police Department’s lip sync challenge video at the 7th Street Theatre on Thursday evening.

The video, set to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” featured footage of Hoquiam police and fire personnel, along with shots of community members taken during the recent National Night Out event.

You can see the video on the department’s Facebook page.

The video was shot and produced by Rick Moyer and was dedicated to former Hoquiam Police officer Daniel McCartney, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year while working as a Pierce County Deputy. At the completion of the video, Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers was emotional as he introduced McCartney’s wife and two young children, who were present for the premier.

Making cameos in the video were Hoquiam Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff, Hoquiam City Administrator Brian Shay, and Hoquiam City Councilmembers Logan Livingston and Brenda Carlstrom.

Myers took the stage after the premier and officially challenged new Aberdeen Police chief Steve Shumate to have his own department make their own lip sync challenge video. Since Aberdeen is the birthplace of Kurt Cobain, he further challenged Shumate to use a Nirvana song. On Friday, Aberdeen Police posted on its Facebook page, “Challenge accepted.”

Stay tuned.
