Walsh and Torgerson win hospital district races, Scroggs trailing

Beerbower Hile elected in District 1

Grays Harbor Hospital District 2 Commission Chairwoman Maryann Walsh appears to be easily turning back a challenge from Dale Hensley, a former fire district commissioner. In ballots counted Wednesday, Walsh leads 5,061 to 3,871, with 57 percent of the vote.

The district operates Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

But longtime hospital board member Pete Scroggs has lost even more ground to his challenger Melanie Sturgeon after Wednesday’s count. Sturgeon leads 4,620 to 3,722, receiving 52.27 percent of the vote.

More ballots are expected to be counted Thursday.

The third contested race featured a candidate — John Farra — who died last week following heart surgery in Seattle. Incumbent Robert Torgerson, the former Aberdeen police chief was defeating Farra with 57 percent of the vote. The news of Farra’s death just became widely known on Monday.
