The new Peterson Playfield is open

Following a $60,000 renovation, a dedication was held for Peterson Playfield on Tuesday afternoon.

The remodeled park, which used to be called the West End Park, has a new picnic shelter and other improvements, including new playground equipment, lighting, tables, basketball hoops, and new concrete walkways.

The park is along Bay Avenue, about two blocks east of the Bi-Mart store in West Aberdeen.

The park is named after longtime Parks Director Wes Peterson, who served in that role from 1970 to 2003. Built in 1971, this was the first park built by the City of Aberdeen under the guidance of Peterson.

Peterson attended the dedication along with others like current Parks Director Stacie Barnum, and Karl Harris who served as the director after Peterson.

“The City of Aberdeen appreciates all that Mr. Peterson did to help make Aberdeen a wonderful place for families and children to live,” Barnum said.

This project was paid for by grants from the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, Aberdeen Rotary Club, Timberland Bank, and Anchor Bank.
