Spike strips, foot pursuit lead to stolen vehicle arrest Friday

A multi-agency vehicle and foot pursuit starting in Cosmopolis late Friday ended with spike strips deployed on State Route 107 and the arrest of a 59-year-old Montesano man for possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude police and resisting arrest, according to a statement by the Cosmopolis Police Department.

A Cosmopolis officer spotted the stolen vehicle at 11:24 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle didn’t pull over, instead pulling onto Blue Slough Road. The officer pursued, coordinating with Aberdeen and Montesano police, the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol.

As the vehicle approached Montesano on State Route 107, deputies deployed spike strips, flattening two of the car’s tires. The car rolled to a stop, but the suspect attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody. He was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail.
