Single vehicle rollover accident on 101 sends Hoquiam woman to hospital

State Patrol report: Driver fell asleep at the wheel, crashed at mile post 113 north of Hoquiam

A 44-year old La Push woman was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital after she apparently fell asleep at the wheel and rolled her vehicle on Highway 101 early Saturday morning, according to a report released by Washington State Patrol District 8 information officer Russel Winger.

The woman was driving southbound on 101 about 24 miles north of Hoquiam around 4 a.m. when her vehicle left the roadway to the right and began entering the southbound ditch. The report said the driver overcorrected to the left, then again to the right. The vehicle rolled two and a half times and came to rest in the northbound lane.

The driver was taken to the hospital for observation. Her 2001 Ford Expedition was totaled. According to the State Patrol report, the woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and drugs or alcohol are not considered factors. The report listed the cause of the crash as the driver falling asleep at the wheel, and listed under “charges” was negligent driving in the second degree.
