Searches called off for missing man near Lake Quinault

Despite multiple search groups and a helicopter with a heat-sensing camera, the searches have been unsuccessful.

The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office has suspended its search for Brandon Brown after days of searching near Lake Quinault.

Brown, 34, from Humptulips, had been cutting wood with a friend last Wednesday afternoon in the area of Wrights Canyon Road southeast of Lake Quinault when he went missing.

Since he went missing, there were numerous search and rescue groups, K-9 units, and a King County helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera looking for the 34-year-old Thursday and Friday, according to an update on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

“Searches were done in all the likely areas where Brown may have been located,” the update read. “The terrain is very steep in areas and very dense with brush and blown down timber. At the conclusion of the searches there was nothing that would encourage further searches in this area at this time.”

Brown was dressed in a heavy jacket and is believed to be carrying a lighter and a flashlight when he went missing. He has been described as being comfortable in the woods and with his survival skills, according to the update. He is also known to cut wood in numerous locations around Grays Harbor.

“It is unknown if Brown may have been able to walk out of the woods and he is unaware that he is considered missing,” the announcement read.

Anyone who has seen Brown since he went missing can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 360-533-8765.
