Reported shooting in Aberdeen leads to five arrests

Large quantities of heroin, methamphetamine found in subsequent search

A man was shot in the leg during an altercation over another man speaking to his girlfriend early Wednesday morning, and Aberdeen Police investigating the incident found large quantities of illegal drugs and several guns, leading to five arrests.

According to Aberdeen Police Lieutenant Kevin Darst, Aberdeen Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of west 5th Street in Aberdeen a little after 6 a.m. Wednesday for a reported shooting. Officers contacted the victim and learned that he had been shot in the leg. The victim identified the suspect, a resident of the home.

Officers investigated the scene and made numerous arrests, including the alleged shooter who returned to the scene in the victim’s car. During the investigation, officers were told that the suspect was mad at the victim for talking to the suspect’s girlfriend, assaulted the victim with a baton and then shot him as he walked away.

Officers also found a large quantity of illegal drugs in the residence which was secured and held while Aberdeen Police detectives obtained a search warrant. The detectives served that search warrant later in the day on Wednesday and recovered the evidence, “a very large quantity” of suspected methamphetamine, according to Darst. The 21-year old suspect was taken to the Grays Harbor County Jail for arraignment. The victim was taken to the hospital.

“Four people were arrested, along with the suspect in the shooting,” said Darst. “Detectives just completed a search of the vehicle the suspect was arrested in and found heroin and another gun,” which made for seven guns seized during the searches of the residence and vehicle.

The suspected shooter is currently being held without bail in the Grays Harbor County Jail awaiting arraignment, charged with First Degree Assault with a firearm and felony sale or manufacturing of controlled substances.
