Police, troopers secure apparently suicidal man on Chehalis River Bridge

Man was safely detained, taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation

Aberdeen Police and State Patrol officers teamed up to bring in a man who appeared to be suicidal and standing outside the railing on the Chehalis River Bridge on Tuesday morning, according to Lt. Kevin Darst.

The man was spotted and both agencies responded around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“Two Aberdeen officers were talking to the man and were on both sides of him,” said Darst. “There were a couple of Washington State Patrol troopers there also. Aberdeen Police Sgt. Dave Parkinson got on scene and evaluated the situation. He was able to come from behind the person and grab him around his upper body, and with the help of the other two officers they pulled him back over the rail.”

Darst said the man appeared suicidal. He was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
