One dead in Raymond house fire

Took two hours to extinguish the blaze, cause is under investigation

One person was found dead early Monday after firefighters extinguished a blaze at 623 Duryea St. in Raymond.

According to a statement from the Raymond Fire Department, firefighters responded to a structure fire just before midnight Sunday and found it fully involved when they arrived and threatening a neighboring home. Crews were able to knock down the fire fairly quickly and search for a male who was reported to still be inside the home. The victim was located and pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other fatalities or injuries, according to responders, who were on the scene for two hours before the fire was fully extinguished. An investigation for the cause is being conducted by the Pacific County Fire Investigation Team, led by the Raymond Police Department and the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office.
