Man allegedly uses sword to attack someone in homeless camp last week

A homeless man living on the Chehalis riverfront allegedly attacked a man with a sword last week.

Just after 2 p.m. last Wednesday, Aberdeen Police officers were dispatched to the riverside camps after being notified of a stabbing. Upon arrival, the officers contacted the victim.

According to Aberdeen Police in a press release, the male victim said he was staying at the riverfront homeless camps after arriving a few days earlier from Seattle. The victim said he was walking along the beach at the camp when the other man came at him in an aggressive manner with a sword raised like a baseball bat.

The victim said the suspect swung the sword at his head, after which the victim raised his hand to protect himself. The sword struck the top of his right hand, causing a laceration. The suspect continued to come at him, so the victim punched the suspect along the side of his head, causing the suspect to fall and strike his head on the rocks along the riverbank.

The Aberdeen Fire Department (AFD) was called which transported the victim to the hospital.

Officers located the suspect in his tent a short distance away. The suspect is a 51-year-old Hispanic male living at the riverside homeless camps. The suspect was bleeding from the side of his head, and claimed he was sleeping in his tent and woke up seeing stars. He also noticed his watch was missing. AFD was called to transport the suspect to the hospital as well.

Officers found the sword and the suspect’s watch at the crime scene. The scene was processed and the investigation is ongoing.
