Log truck tips over, dumps load on West Heron Thursday morning

Rear trailer malfunctioned, caused truck to tip onto its right side

A Sweatman’s log truck tipped over while turning onto West Heron Street Street from North Park Street on Thursday morning near the AM/PM in Aberdeen.

Witnesses at the AM/PM placed the time of the crash at around 9 a.m. Lt. Kevin Darst with the Aberdeen Police Department was not at the scene himself, but he spoke with the responding officer who told him the log truck’s second trailer malfunctioned and tipped onto its right side, causing the rest of the truck, including the cab, onto its right side. One of the lamp posts at the AM/PM was flattened in the accident.

The driver of the log truck was taken to the hospital with ijuries that were described has minor. The right lane of West Heron was blocked at the scene for more than three hours while another truck was brought to the scene to recover the logs that spilled onto the sidewalk, and two pumps at the AM/PM gas station were closed during the cleanup. The roadway was clear before 1 p.m.
