LaPush recreational all-depth halibut fishery cut short one day

Quota amounts nearly reached, nearshore fishery continues until further notice

The Marine Area 1 all-depth recreational halibut fishery out of LaPush will get its season cut short by a day, according to action taken Wednesday by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

According to the statement, anglers caught 8,455 of the 11,182-pound quota allowed under regulations. The season remained open until midnight Friday, but the fishery scheduled for Sunday has been closed to protect the quota.

The near-shore halibut fishery in Marine Area 1 will remain open Mondays through Wednesdays until further notice.

These rules conform to management actions taken by the International Pacific Halibut Commission and the National Marine Fisheries Service.
