House fire in South Aberdeen causes significant damage

A house fire in South Aberdeen caused significant damage over the weekend.

Just before noon on Sunday, the Aberdeen Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 123 W. Marion St. The initial response was all “on-duty” Aberdeen personnel consisting of two fire engines, a medic unit and a comand unit. The Hoquiam Fire Department assisted with a fire engine and two personnel, to make a total of 10 fire ground personnel. The incident was upgraded to an “escalated first alarm,” adding an additional five personnel.

One of the house’s occupants who was home at the time noticed smoke coming from the back of the building. When the occupant went outside to see where the smoke was coming from, she noticed the back porch area was on fire. She attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, but quickly recognized that the fire was beyond her ability control. She called 911 and evacuated the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The estimated structure damage cost is estimated at $73,403 for the building, and $61,934 for the contents.
