Hoquiam woman pleads guilty to hatchet attack on 82-year-old victim

Faces 12-plus years at sentencing next week

A woman arrested for badly bludgeoning an 82-year-old Hoquiam man with a hatchet in early January has pleaded guilty to the attack and a burglary charge.

In Grays Harbor County Superior Court Monday, Alicia Marie Lamb, age 29 at the time of the attack, pleaded guilty to one count each of first degree burglary and second degree assault for the Jan. 4 attack. Lamb agreed to the charges that she had entered a home with a deadly weapon, and assaulted the victim, Gerald Guile.

Guile spent several days in the hospital following the incident. He was treated for seven blows and gashes to the head and his arm, a skull fracture and a broken arm that required a plate insertion.

When sentenced next week, Lamb could be facing at least 12 years in prison as part of the plea agreement. If found guilty by a jury, she could have faced as much as an additional three plus years.

The Jan. 4 attack began with a woman calling 911 to report she had found Lindsay Baum, the McCleary girl who has been missing since 2009. The caller said she was going to kill the person who had Baum, according to court documents.

She first entered a home north of Hoquiam and damaged furniture with the hatchet. The couple that lived in the home was able to get her out of the house before anyone was injured. Lamb then entered Guile’s house across the street in the 100 block of Dekay Road, attacking him with the hatchet. Police arrived and were able to get the hatchet away from Lamb before placing her under arrest. After the attack she told officers she had ingested mushrooms and was taken to the hospital. She has remained in the Grays Harbor County Jail since her arrest.
