Hoquiam and Aberdeen fire departments fighting blaze at Harbor Saw in Hoquiam

Firefighters are battling a blaze at Harbor Saw & Supply, 3102 Simpson Ave. in Hoquiam.

“At this point the fire department has take a defensive stance as it appears the fire has spread throughout the entire building,” Hoquiam Chief of Police Jeff Myers said in an email. “Small explosions can be heard from the back of building, likely from fuel canisters, fuel tanks, small engines and other flammables triggered by the fire.”

Hoquiam and Aberdeen fire fighters are on the scene. The fire reportedly started in a small engine equipment shop before spreading to the rest of the building.

“Simpson Avenue is closed and there is a detour in place,” Myers wrote. “Smoke from the fire can be seen for several miles and citizens are urged to stay out of the area so the fire department can work without interference.”
