Grant funds college readiness program at Ocosta High

Ocosta School District has been awarded a five-year 21st Century grant focusing on college and career readiness for students in grades 7 through 12.

The program begins Oct. 1 and will run every Monday through Thursday from 2:45 to 5:45 p.m. Students will have after-school opportunities to work with certified teachers and tutors and academic coaches on homework.

An art and technology lab will be open for students to collaborate on projects and pursue their interests.

The grant also provides special YMCA classes on Ocosta’s campus such as first aid, CPR, leadership, yoga and baby sitter training.

Students will be transported for swim exercise sessions throughout the year and will have access to internships through a partnership with Grays Harbor Youth Works.

Summer programs will include daily busing to the Twin Harbor Skills Center in Aberdeen, where Ocosta Junior/Senior High School students will earn CTE credits.
