On Monday evening, Gov. Jay Inslee climbed to the top of the Grays Harbor Lighthouse and lit the lens to kick off the yearlong celebration of the beacon’s 120th anniversary.

Earlier, the governor attended a luncheon of local officials at the Westport Maritime Museum, followed by a roundtable with various representative of the city’s seafood and fishing industry.

The Westport South Beach Historical Society will host an open house at the lighthouse the evening of Aug. 23, which marks exactly 120 years since the cornerstone was laid. The society’s board is finalizing a series of events to be held at the lighthouse and McCausland Hall over the next several months, according to Executive Director John Shaw.

The lighthouse in Westport is the tallest in the Pacific Northwest, at 107 feet.
