Elma teen killed in Highway 101 crash near Warrenton, Ore.

Passenger killed after vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Freightliner truck

An Elma teenager was killed and several others were injured when the car they were traveling in crossed the center line of Highway 101 in Clatsop County, Ore., near Warrenton early Sunday morning and collided with a Freightliner truck.

Oregon State Police did not release the name of the 15-year-old passenger, who was seated in the front passenger seat at the time of the wreck. They did state the driver of the vehicle was 18-year-old Ronald Cable of Elma, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A 19-year- old identified as Devon Breaty of Elma was also seated the back seat and was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria before being transferred to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. Another passenger was identified as 16-year-old Eliana Breaty of Elma, who was in the back seat and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner truck, Freddy Pina-Lopez, 45, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital.

According to the Oregon State Police report, the 2007 Ford Focus operated by Cable was traveling northbound on Highway 101 near Warrenton when it crossed the center line and ran into the path of the truck. Investigators are considering fatigue and marijuana use as possible contributing factors in the crash.

The Oregon State Police were assisted by the Warrenton PD, Astoria PD, Seaside PD, Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Clatsop County medical examiner, Warrenton Fire Department, Medix and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
