Early morning blaze Thursday destroys Central Park home

Fire Chief: Five residents inside were able to escape unharmed

A fire broke out in the early morning hours Thursday at a home on Pioneer Road just south of the Central Park fire station.

The blaze started around 4:30 a.m., said Fire Chief Leonard Johnson, who along with several other personnel was still on the scene mopping up around 9 a.m. Thursday. He said five people were in the home when the fire started, but everyone was able to escape “uninjured.”

Pioneer Road remained closed to traffic at 9 a.m. Thursday. Johnson said Fire District 2 will release a statement about the fire later today.
