Sex offender caught

Quest Cottrell, wanted for a sex offense he allegedly committed Sunday, was arrested by Aberdeen police Tuesday after a tip placed him walking on Highway 101 near Walker Road. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Aberdeen jail. He has been charged in Grays Harbor County District Court with child molestation in the first and second degrees and is being held on $100,000 bail. The victim’s mother identified Cottrell initially as he is known by the victim’s family. Police put a notice on social media asking for the public’s help in locating Cottrell, who is a level 2 sex offender from a prior rape of a child conviction in Grays Harbor County. “The Aberdeen Police Department wants to thank the media and the citizens of Grays Harbor County for helping us catch Cottrell,” said Aberdeen Police Detective Jeff Weiss.

Report of man attempting to lure children on Bay Avenue

Aberdeen Police responded to a suspicious person report in the 1900 block of Bay Avenue Wednesday at around 11 p.m. A mother reported that several of her young children were approached on the street by a tall, thin male wearing blue jeans, a white shirt and ball cap around 7 p.m. The suspect tried to get the children to go with him by saying he had five kittens, three bunnies and a baby pig, according to Lt. Kevin Darst with Aberdeen Police. The children ran back to their mother’s house and asked if she would take them to see the animals. By the time the mother went to the street to see who the man was, he was gone. Darst asks anyone who witnesses this type of activity or has information about this suspect to call 911.

Driver wrecks on State Route 8

A Portland man was injured and transported to Harborview Hospital in Seattle when he lost control of his car and crashed on State Route 8 three miles east of Elma Thursday. Just before 1 a.m. the 25-year old driver was reportedly traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when his 2008 Volvo C30 left the road, struck an embankment and rolled about two times before coming to rest on its top off the road. The vehicle was a total loss. A State Patrol report says the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
