Grease fire damages home on North Jeffries Tuesday night

Aberdeen Fire Department personnel were called to a home in the 300 block of North Jeffries Street Tuesday shortly before 9 p.m. after a pan of grease on a kitchen stove sparked a fire that spread to other rooms before it was extinguished. Aberdeen Fire Captain Sam Baretich said in a statement a total of two engines, one command unit, one medic unit and an additional Hoquiam engine responded, with 10 total firefighters. The home had been evacuated prior to their arrival.

Two-truck collision totals one on 101 north of Hoquiam

A two truck collision on Highway 101 north of Hoquiam Tuesday afternoon resulted in no injuries, but one of the vehicles was totaled. A 2000 Volvo tractor trailer truck driven by a 40-year old British Columbia man was heading southbound near milepost 133 when it stopped to make a left turn. Behind him was a 58-year old Hoquiam man driving a 2006 Peterbilt tractor trailer who failed to stop, striking the Volvo’s trailer. The Peterbilt continued into the ditch and blocked the northbound lane. According to the Washington State Patrol, the cause of the accident was the Hoquiam driver’s failure to yield.
