Feathered, furry friends rescued from fire

Aberdeen Fire and Police rescued five dogs and two birds from a house fire on Chicago Avenue Wednesday afternoon. Thick smoke was pouring out of the back of the home when crews arrived, coming primarily from the crawlspace. Responders fought the fire and searched the house, finding the fire was trapped below the structure. The animals were rescued and crews were able to extinguish the flames, which caused an estimated $79,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.

Dumpster-diving felon detained

Aberdeen police were tipped to a suspicious person dressed in black checking the door of a closed business Wednesday just after 2 a.m. Officers arrived and saw a man in the alley behind the business removing trash from a dumpster. After checking identification it was found the 26-year old man had an outstanding Aberdeen Municipal Court warrant, along with a felony warrant from DOC. He was booked and transported to Hoquiam City Jail.
