Davis is second candidate to file for Cosmopolis mayor

The city of Cosmopolis will have a contested race for mayor.

Firefighter Steve Davis has thrown his hat into the ring. As of Wednesday morning, Davis and Councilman Kyle Pauley are the candidatges vying to replace Mayor Frank Chestnut, who has decided not to seek re-election. He wants to retire again. He retired from work in 2012, while a member of the council.

“It’s time to hang it up and retire for real. … I’m going to abuse my (retirement) privledges,” he said Wednesday with a laugh.

Pauley was appointed to the council in 2014 to fill Chestnut’s seat when Chestnut became mayor. He serves on the city Parks, Recreation and Cemetery; the Public Works; and Finance committees.

Davis was The Daily World’s 2018 Firefighter of the Year. He is a captain in the Cosmopolis Fire Department and grew up in the city.

Skaramuca will face businesswoman Brooke Chapman-Hoiness, who with her husband owns Bulldog Lanes. They also are opening a new venture on Marcy Street, which has applied for a license to sell liquor according to a posted notice in the window.
