Cosmopolis family of four loses belongings, including Christmas gifts, in fire

Young family was not at home at time of the fire, house left ‘unlivable’

A house fire on the 200 block of B Street in Cosmopolis Thursday night has left four young adults and one small child without a home and with most of their possession destroyed.

According to a GoFundMe site established for the home’s residents, nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Jake Prater — a volunteer fireman from District 5 and son of district chief Dan Prater — was working a shift at his Elma area station, while newlyweds Tyler — on holiday leave from the military — and Jenna White were shopping with their 1-year old son Asher. Another resident, Tyler Shelton, was also away from the home when the blaze was reported around 8:30 p.m.

The home was rendered unlivable and destroyed all their belongings, including Christmas presents purchased and wrapped earlier that day and new toys Asher had received for his recent first birthday.

Friends have started a GoFundMe page, stating “This is devastating to all of them, losing all their belongings as they just start their journey as productive, responsible, good young adults. We know many of the family items can’t be replaced but we hope to be able to help them replace things like furniture including beds, couches, TVs, clothes for all of them, to name a few things.” The GoFundMe page can be viewed at gofundme.com/358uzr4.
