Car crashes into “Breaker” wave statue in Aberdeen

A woman was arrested for DUI after crashing her car into the “Breaker” wave statue in Aberdeen on Friday night.

According to a press release from the Aberdeen Police Department, a 32-year-old Olympia woman lost control of her vehicle just before midnight Friday and crashed her 2000 Chevrolet Impala into the statue where Simpson Avenue turns south and becomes Park Street.

When officers responded, they found the vehicle high-centered at the foot of the monument.

The driver was checked by paramedics from the Montesano Fire Department, who reported they had been passed by the car at a high speed moments before it crashed, the release says. Skid marks leading up to the crash were consistent with the vehicle driving faster than 40 miles per hour.

The monument itself did not appear damaged, but some of the lighting next to it was. The driver was arrested and booked into the Aberdeen jail under suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license, along with infractions issued for no insurance and wheels going off the roadway.
