Brother shoots brother at Pacific Avenue residence

Officers investigating circumstances surrounding the incident

A man in his early 20s shot his brother at a residence in the 1800 block of Pacific Avenue in Aberdeen shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, and police were still trying to determine the events that led to the shooting late into the afternoon.

“We are processing the scene right now, and I just don’t have any definitive answers,” said Aberdeen Police Lt. Kevin Darst. “We have the Washington State Crime Lab helping us process. Right now I have a theory, but nothing definitive I can share.”

The victim, also in his early 20s, was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital initially, but his wounds, which were not detailed before press time, were serious enough that he was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition is unknown, and the names of the suspect and the victim have not been released.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting by the brothers’ father, according to Darst. When officers from the Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Cosmopolis police departments and the State Patrol arrived at the residence they found the father holding one of the brothers to the ground. When the scene was secured and the alleged shooter handcuffed, officers went upstairs, where the father said the incident took place. There they found the victim, obviously injured and unconscious.

The brother who allegedly did the shooting was “arrested without further incident on unrelated charges,” according to Darst, the nature of which were not released, and was booked into the Aberdeen jail.
