‘Alternative Radio’ director to speak in Hoquiam

David Barsamian will take the podium Thursday as part of the Grays Harbor Institute’s Winter Speaker Series.

The Armenian-American author and radio broadcaster also is founder and director of “Alternative Radio.” The Boulder, Colorado-based weekly public affairs program — now in its 32nd year — is heard on about 250 radio stations worldwide. Locally, it’s broadcast Sundays at noon on KGHI-FM 91.1 in Westport and KGHE-FM 89.1 in Elma.

He’s also an author, having written books with Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn and many others.

Barsamian’s presentation, “Global Discontents: Conversations on the Rising Threats to Democracy,” will begin at 7 p.m. at Events on Emerson in Hoquiam. Doors will open at 6:30. A reception will follow.

The event is free; GHI donations will be requested.
