Aberdeen man who shot his brother early Wednesday makes first court appearance

Lloyd Steven Nunez preliminary hearing was Friday, bail set at $10,000

The 20-year-old Aberdeen man arrested for allegedly shooting his brother early Wednesday morning made his first court appearance in Grays Harbor County Superior Court on Friday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Jason Walker, Lloyd Steven Nunez “with criminal negligence did cause bodily harm to (his 21-year old brother)” with a firearm. His bail was set at $10,000.

Aberdeen Police Lt. Kevin Darst and technicians from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab spent the better part of the day following the shooting processing evidence at the scene. While investigators have a theory about the circumstances around the shooting, he said analysis of the evidence will take some time and could provide no other details Friday.

“We spent all day Wednesday at the crime scene, but we won’t have the forensics back for weeks so we won’t have the details until then,” he said.

According to a previous statement by Darst, officers were alerted to the incident by Nunez’s father, who was found when police arrived holding Nunez to the ground. Nunez was secured and the father directed police and aid personnel to the second floor of the home in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue, where the victim lay wounded and unconscious.

At this time Nunez is facing a charge of assault in the third degree — domestic violence. His brother, who was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Wednesday morning, was listed in critical condition Friday.
