‘The Notebook’ featured for ‘Take your Honey to Hoquiam’

The ninth annual Valentine event ties date night up in a neat red bow.

Take Your Honey to Hoquiam is adding a new element this year.

The ninth annual Valentine event ties date night up in a neat red bow with dinner, a movie and flowers.

It started in 2005 as an effort to boost both the 7th Street Theatre and Hoquiam restaurants.

Participating eateries pay a $60 sponsorship fee, and in return they each get a set number of movie tickets to hand out to their patrons during the week before the featured film is shown.

In a new twist this year, Simply Said Flowers is distributing free movie tickets to patrons who order Valentine flowers from them this week.

In addition, the florist is donating special bouquets to be auctioned off at the theater before each screening, with proceeds to help fund repairs needed at the 90-year-old theater.

This year’s Valentine movie is “The Notebook,” starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Gena Rowlands and James Garner.

The movie will be shown at 7:30 p.m. next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16 and 17, at the 7th Street Theatre.

Regular tickets also may be purchased for $6 each in advance at Harbor Drug, City Drug or Crown Drug, or at the door 30 minutes prior to the show.

And yes, popcorn will be served with real butter at these showings.
